A successful construction business owner came to me with solid financial reporting — but wanted more insights into how the business was performing operationally. His accounting team was stretched thin, and while the P&L was consistent, it didn’t help him understand where to focus as the business scaled.

As we reviewed and applied insights over the following six months, the results became clear: stronger team accountability, improved gross margins, and a leadership team aligned around real, actionable data.
Over the course of a year, I worked with a driven business owner who, like many, was making decisions based on her cash-basis Profit & Loss statement and the balance in her bank account. While this approach gave a surface-level sense of security, it didn’t reflect the full financial reality. Her gross margins appeared strong, but in truth, they were significantly skewed due to the limitations of cash-basis reporting. She knew she wanted to grow her margins but didn’t realize she first needed a clear and accurate view of them.
Through our work together, we implemented a custom dashboard that pulled data from multiple sources and transformed it into one centralized, easy-to-understand view of her KPIs—including true gross margin. This allowed her to stay on cash-basis bookkeeping while finally seeing the full picture. Once she understood the gaps in her old reports, everything changed.
